Zitsa
The altitude here reaches 650 to 700 meters. The grape varieties cultivated must be able to withstand cold temperatures and northern winds. The white Debina fulfills these conditions and hence covers 95% of the vineyards here and makes up the VQPRD Zitsa. Zitsa is also one of the only three areas in Greece (the other two are Amyndeo and Rhodes) that traditionally produce sparkling wines.
Metsovo
The first attempt to cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon, now found in almost every wine producing area in Greece, was made in Metsovo, on some of the country's most mountainous vineyards, at an altitude of 950-1,000 meters. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Traminer, Chardonnay, and the indigenous Vlahiko are cultivated here as well. The Regional wine of Metsovo is made from the red varieties.
